VISION NIGHT PRESENTATION (27 min)
We exist to declare and demonstrate the good news of the gospel. We aim to preserve the gospel by preaching Christ faithfully and spread the gospel by planting new churches.
OUR MINISTRY VALUES
WHY WE PLANTED WITH THE GRACE NETWORK
The Grace Network is an affiliate of Redeemer City to City, whose mission is to plant multiplying churches in Global Cities. They have planted over 354 churches worldwide and one of those church plants is Grace Toronto, from which the Grace Network was established to plant churches in smaller cities such as KW. We desire to establish KW Redeemer as a church that is able to train, resource and start new church plants in our region.
WHY WE ARE UNDER CARE OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (PCA)
The term “Presbyterian” means having a division of power through a plurality of elders. The New Testament church was governed by presbyteries. (Acts 6,14,20) The pastor in a presbyterian church model is the ‘teaching elder’. They are required to have masters degrees in theology from approved seminaries. All other elders are congregation members who demonstrate caring, pastoral gifting and meet the qualifications as outlined in Titus 1, 1 Timothy 3 and 1 Peter 5. Those elders are then trained theologically, examined and ordained by the Eastern Canada presbytery so that they are equipped to protect the faithful preaching of the gospel as well as serve the church. In a presbyterian model, elders carry equal authority to ensure that power is not used unilaterally by one individual. Presently, KW Redeemer has external elders who hold our pastor accountable for the faithful preaching of the gospel and ministry to the church.
WHAT WE TEACH
The doctrine of God’s grace is the foundation of KW Redeemer
The foundational level of every church is doctrine. In Luke 24, Christ declared that He is the fulfillment of all Scripture. Therefore, the gospel of His grace is central to our teaching of the Scriptures. The gospel is both the good news that invites us into Christian faith and the power by which we live it out.
The “Five Solas” were the teachings of the Reformation that summarized how the Scriptures revealed that salvation is by grace and faith in Christ alone. “Sola” is Latin for “alone”. These reformational doctrines are central at KW Redeemer.
While the Westminster and Heidelberg confessions serve as faithful guides for our doctrines, we maintain that Scripture alone is inerrant and authoritative for faith and practice.
HOW WE SEE
Contextualizing our ministry to serve KW
How we see our city context creates the ‘why’ behind what we do. We love the diversity and vitality of KW. We celebrate the arts, professions, education and the diverse cultural expressions that are here and we want to be an outward facing church, involved in our community. As a result, church programs are minimal to facilitate that. At the same time, our context warrants programs that will equip the church to minister in our city context, like developing a ministry for students. We desire to be a place that welcomes seekers and skeptics. We invite their questions, graciously sharing why our hope is in Christ. We desire to show love to those who disagree with our convictions and maintain that this can be done without abandoning our convictions.
WHAT WE DO
Versatility in Ministry Expressions today and tomorrow
Ministry expressions, while valuable, are never foundational. They are a byproduct of particular leaders and congregations with particular gifts at a particular time in the life of the church. Ministry expression is the most visible part of a church but it is also the most versatile. We desire to be faithful stewards of the gifts and abilities available to us today, with the expectation that the form our programs, events and ministry expressions have presently will change if it means being more effective for gospel-centred ministry in the future.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Ministry expressions, programs and events flow from our desire to contextualize our ministry to best serve the church and reach out to the city of KW. All these things are built upon the unchanging foundation of the doctrines of God’s grace. From our foundation of resting in the gospel, we aim to walk out the rich implications of the gospel in order to love one another, use our gifts for the betterment of KW and ultimately, plant more churches.
